Children and adults of all ages have always been fascinated by dinosaurs. The top dinosaur exhibits in the world feature full-size skeletons and modern technology that both pleases and awes visitors.

The Natural History Museum in Berlin displays various species that were excavated mostly from Tanzania. The brachiosaurus specimen is included in the Guinness Book of World Records as the tallest dinosaur on display.

The Filed Museum in Chicago, Illinois houses the world’s largest tyrannosaurus rex. This enormous full-size skeleton stands 13 feet tall and 49 feet long. The Fernbank Museum of Natural History in Atlanta, Georgia features a 100-ton Argentinosaurus. This creature is the largest dinosaur ever classified.

Visitors enjoy twenty full-size dinosaur exhibits at the Wyoming Dinosaur Center in Thermopolis. Supersaurus is a 106 foot long dinosaur that is one of the longest displays in the world. Actual paleontologists are also on site to answer questions and discuss various topics.

Both Jurassic Land in Istanbul and Dinosaur Journey Museum in Fruita, Colorado exhibit numerous dinosaur fossils and skeletons. There are also robotic dinosaurs that realistically come to life by showing their many movements.

Top dinosaur exhibits in the world can be enjoyed by any age more than once in a lifetime. There is always something new to experience even on a return trip to a museum.

Ever since their fossilized remains were first discovered, dinosaurs have captured the imaginations of people all over the world. At first, their fossils were the basis for stories of fantastic mythical creatures, and through further study throughout human history we have deduced how dinosaurs looked, what they ate and even how they may have behaved. Now, modern technology has advanced to the point where we can create lifelike models of these animals for exhibits such as the one currently open at the North Carolina Zoo.

People all over the world have speculated as to why dinosaurs are so fascinating to us. Part of the appeal is that we’ve been able to accurately depict animals that existed millions of years ago through modern scientific research, which is amazing in itself. The fact that everything we think we know about dinosaurs comes from the study of ancient fossils and not from first-hand experience also allows us to speculate as to what they were really like, which is also fascinating. As for the rising popularity of newer dinosaur exhibits, that can be attributed to modern technology. We can create very lifelike models and even animatronic puppets of dinosaurs, some of which are so convincing that they are the next best thing to bringing them back to life. Special effects for movies such as the Jurassic Park films can also bring dinosaurs to life in ways that weren’t possible years ago. These modern depictions of the long-gone dinosaurs serve to remind us that these magnificent animals once existed in ways that collections of bones never can, and they will continue to capture people’s imaginations for years to come.

It’s not every day that a person gets to feel what it was like to live millions of years ago among the dinosaurs, but that’s the aim of many interactive dinosaur exhibits. A fun or serious look at past eras when dinosaurs roamed the earth may be closer than you think.

Many museums that focus on natural history are home to permanent interactive dinosaur exhibits, like the Carnegie Museum of Natural History in Pennsylvania, the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C., or the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science. One can expect to stand next to full-size dinosaur skeletons and learn about their amazing history and habits.

Kids will enjoy interactive dinosaur exhibits made just for them, where they can become research assistants, searching among the exhibits for answers to questions from scientists. They will come face-to-face with life-sized dinosaur models and live to tell the tale. There are even large theme parks with dinosaur exhibits which bring famous dinosaurs from movies and TV to life!

If traveling is not an option, let the dinosaurs come to you. There are many traveling interactive dinosaur exhibits that offer real-life rides on animatronic dinosaurs, and possibly one at your local zoo right now!

Planning a trip for the dinosaur enthusiast in your family? These cities represent the United States’ most fascinating dinosaur exhibits, and are absolute musts on the itinerary of amateur paleontologists of all ages.

Chicago, Illinois
Chicago is the home of The Field Museum, an incredible treasure trove for dinosaur enthusiasts of all ages. The centerpiece of the museum is “Sue,” the most complete Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton anywhere in the world. The museum hosts a regular event called “Dozin’ with the Dinos,” where children overnight in the museum, sleeping under the largest T-rex skeleton ever uncovered.

Colorado, Utah
In Colorado you’ll find the Dinosaur National Monument, the dream of any budding paleontologist, young or old. The park, which is half museum and half working excavation site, allows visitors to view dinosaur skeletal fragments as they were originally discovered. Particularly dramatic is the The Fossil Discovery Trail, which affords visitors breathtaking views of cliffs littered with fossil remnants.

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Look no further than Philadelphia for one of the country’s largest displays of dinosaurs and other fossils. At The Academy of Natural Sciences, more than 30 distinct dinosaur species are on display. Professional paleontologists offer regular kid-friendly lectures at the museum, and adults can observe the curatorial process in action.
